Cursive used to be taught as a regular subject in elementary school. But in the last 20 years, it has fallen out of favor, particularly in public education. 

• Thinking: Because cursive activates the brain differently than printing and especially typing, it can help build neural pathways between the left and right sides of the brain. 
• Spelling: Writing in cursive can improve spelling, particularly for elementary students who are learning new words. Cursive allows students to understand how letters fit together.
• Syntax: Kids that write in cursive have an easier time forming words and sentences because writing in cursive makes it easier for students to remember how words are formed and how they fit together to form sentences. 
• Motor skills: Writing in cursive improves fine motor skills through repetition. Children learn how to position the pencil or pen, how much pressure is needed, and allows them to plan ahead when writing. 
• Retention: Data show that cursive helps with retention of information. The act of writing in cursive allows the brain to better process and retain information. It also aids in focus and self-discipline. 

We teach cursive by starting with lower case letters, followed by capital letters, and finally word and sentence formation. There are three levels, broken down by grade or writing skill.

• Level 1: Our first level is for second through fourth grade or for students who are having a harder time printing. 
• Level 2: The second level is for 5th through 8th grade or for students who are more used to writing by hand. 
• Level 3: The last level is for high school students or even college students or those who are used to printing and have mastery of printing neatly. 

Students in all courses will need to have the following:

• Reliable internet connection and webcam to participate in online classes. 
• Printer to print out practice sheets or alternatively, acquiring a handwriting practice tablet (link below)
• Practice time of 30-60 minutes per day to work on writing

Having an understanding of grammar and syntax is a requirement for almost every job as written communication, even via email or text, is required. 

In this suite of classes, students learn the different parts of speech, subject/verb agreement, sentence structure, and learn tricks to help them spell and write better.

Ultimately, having good grammar and command of the English language can help students get higher grades throughout their education and can help them get hired when they reach the job market.

For all of our grammar courses, we use tried and true methods with teaching students, including phonics to help with spelling and sentence diagramming to assist with syntax. 

We offer three levels of courses that build upon each other. 

• Level 1: Identify and use correctly the basic parts of speech, Identify and use proper punctuation
• Level 2: Demonstrate proper word usage and correct common spelling errors. This course covers irregular verb tenses, learning to spell commonly misspelled words through phonics or memorization, and using prepositions, adverbs, and adjectives correctly.
• Level 3: Recognize and write grammatically correct sentences through sentence diagramming and how to avoid fragments and run-on sentences

Students in all courses will need to have the following:

• Reliable internet connection and webcam to participate in online classes.

Like grammar, writing is a skill that has rules and is instrumental for a student's success in school and in life. 

Writing is a common standard that is used to judge someone's work, abilities, and intellect. 

Writing well also improves the ability to communicate both verbally and on paper.

Learning how to write will also help with one's reading ability.

We begin with the basics in our writing program. From prewriting, to writing a good topic sentence and thesis, to editing and proofreading, these courses will get your student writing better. 

We offer three courses in our writing program:

• Middle School: This four week course focuses on how to write a strong paragraph with topic sentence and moves on to writing a short essay.
• High School: This 8-week course provides students with all of the steps they will need to write a succinct essay with evidence. Included are prewriting tips, creating a strong thesis, capturing attention with a good introduction, drafting body paragraphs, and concluding the essay. 
• Research: Intended for high school students or advanced middle school students, this course covers how to select a topic, how to conduct internet research finding valid sources, and how to cite sources and avoid plagiarism. Students will write a research paper and get feedback on the various steps throughout the course.
